Story

The last time there was a Rocket League tournament at the Zürich Game Show, was back in 2017. The final was Whiffmasters against Servette Geneva Esports. In 2018 there was nothing with Rocket League at all... Quite sad. Now in 2019 it's back! 16 teams were invited to play a qualifier within a double elimination bracket. 4 teams were able to qualify for the 2nd qualifier. These teams were mYinsanity, SIR east, SIR west and Servette Geneva Esports. The 2nd qualifier was played offline in the eParadise in Zürich. All 4 teams showed up and tried to qualify for the 2 spot to play on the big stage at the Zürich Game Show.

The finals

It was a hard fight, but SIR west and Servette Geneva Esports were able to show up and move on to the finals. The final was on a friday evening at 7pm. Everyone left work or school early and made their way to Zürich. I met my teammate MirrorWing at the train station and walked with him to the exhibition. My other teammate classic' was already there waiting on us. We met the other team and the responsible person for the tournament, but had to wait until a cosplay show finished. They were on the stage we would play after, so we were not allowed to set anything up yet. Once they finished, we were able to go on stage and look for the organizers that would tell us how and where to set up. It was 20min to before the tournament should start. We tried to set up everything as fast as possible so the tournament could start on time. The tournament started around 7:05pm.

SIR west started the series with a 1 game advantage, because they beat us in the 2nd qualifier. The series on stage was pretty one sided tho. We had a good performance and classic' had a very good day and scored goal after goal. Team SIR sadly had some issues with the PCs, so 2 of their players didn't have proper sound and the microphone stopped working in the middle of the games. This really threw them off their rotation and they couldn't play their best. We secured the series and ended up winning 4-1. We got the price check of CHF 300.-- and some experience to play on stage.

Thanks

Special thanks to classic' for playing with us for this event. He is not in the usual roster for Servette Geneva Esports, but he agreed to play this event with us and replaced hello. It's a lot of fun playing with him and I was very happy to have him on my side at this event. Credits to @sgc_esports and @sodaboop for sharing the awesome pictures.
